Will my debit card work in Spain

Will my debit card work in Spain?
I am going to Spain for a couple of weeks and was wondering if my debit card would work in the cashpoints over there. It is a VISA debit from HSBC. Has anyone used one of these in Europe?

Debit Cards made by Visa do work in most European ATMs. Just be sure to NOTIFY YOUR BANK that you will be leaving the country, or they may shut off your card after the first time you use it overseas. (It's a security function to prevent theft.) In that case, you would be very out of luck.

Contact HSBC to let them know that you are travelling to Spain and will be using your card there. If you don't contact them, you run the risk of them putting a hold on your account the first time you try to use it overseas. It is not uncommon for an account to be frozen due to suspected fraud. You will not have any problems as long as you notify them ahead of time.

A visa debit issued by HSBC will be fine, but as a precaution you might just want to nip into your branch and let them know you will using it overseas in the next few weeks so they don't put a block on any transactions.
